About

Your personal guide to Saint Petersburg, Priozersk
Activities languages: English, German, Russian
Education: СПбГУ
Hello everyone, I'm Yulia (Gardarika - a creative pseudonym) - a guide accredited by the Committee for Tourism in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. Born and raised on the Karelian Isthmus, in the city of Priozersk, on the shores of the brutally beautiful Lake Ladoga. She graduated from the philological faculty of St. Petersburg State University, the department of Germanic languages. I speak English, German, a little Swedish, I understand written Norwegian. With great pleasure I will explain the words Skär with an etymologist, show the narrowest strait of Ladoga, and also dispel the myth that 300 years ago St. Petersburg was founded on desert swamps. A linguist by education, Snorri Sturluson at heart, an archaeologist at heart – this is how I would briefly describe myself. Philological education, of course, makes it possible to find unique historical material for author's tours. Scandinavian culture has long occupied a special place in my heart due to its intermittent historical connection with the northwestern Ladoga region - my homeland, therefore my author's excursions are based on interest in the ancient history of these places, and love for the mysterious northern nature. I have started my career as a guide-interpreter from working with foreign tourists, worked privately with hotels and individual guests of St. Petersburg. My interests include the formation of the ancient Russian state, the history of Scandinavia and the Swedish city of Nyen, which was located on the site of St. Petersburg in the 17th century. Recently I have been studying materials from the National Archives of Sweden, as well as other original historical documents (in German), on the basis of which I select material for my excursions.
