Majestic Termessos

Termessos is an ancient city located in the east of Antalya, about 30 km from Antalya at an altitude of 1050 meters. Due to its very favorable strategic position, the city was never captured. It had its own water supply system, allowing residents to easily endure long-term sieges. Alexander the Great tried to capture the impregnable fortress city, but failed, confining himself to setting fire to olive groves in the vicinity of the city. The first settlements on the site of Termessos appeared in 3 thousand BC, but the city itself was built in the 6th century. BC. The city experienced its heyday during the 2nd and 3rd centuries. BC. At this time, the population reached 150 thousand people. In the 5th-9th centuries, several powerful earthquakes turned the majestic Termessos into ruins. As a result of these natural disasters, water supply systems were disrupted and residents had to leave the city. And so ended the story of the legendary Termessos, which today only ruins remind us of.
